Liverpool should miss out on one of its priorities this summer after Manchester City has given itself a boost in the race for Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt.
The Reds are following the 19-year-old Dutch international for some time, De Ligt having achieved many eye-catching performances for the Amsterdam-based team this term.
De Ligt won 15 selections for the Dutch and established a formidable partnership with Liverpool midfielder Virgil van Dijk for the Oranje.
However, it seems that Premier League rivals Manchester City have become favorites in the De Ligt signing race.
Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal advised the young defender to join the Premier League champions or move to the Liga to join Barcelona, after qualifying their other defensive options as "not too good".
According to Goal, Serie A champions Juventus are also looking to negotiate an agreement with the young player from Ajax.
