Man Utd lost Ander Herrera to PSG in favor of a free transfer for "lack of communication"

A flawless stayManchester United would have lost the favorite midfielder of the supporters, Ander Herrera, during a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, victim of a "lack of communication", while an offer of last Old Trafford's minute arrived too late.

Arriving from Athletic Bilbao for £ 29m in 2014, Herrera is out of contract at the end of the season and it is widely accepted that he has now just signed an outstanding pre-contract deal with PSG, which will allow him to settle in France this summer.

United has been trying to negotiate a new deal to keep the popular 29-year-old, but Herrera admitted earlier this week that he and the club "do not think the same way". This seems to be a reference to wages, as the two parties are too far apart to reach an agreement.

According to Press Association reporter Simon Peach, the damage to United was caused by a "lack of communication" earlier this year, while "things went quiet" for about three months.

It is suggested that the contract negotiations did not take place at that time, which is unfortunate because Herrera, who became eligible to start discussing his future with foreign clubs from 1 January, would have had " two other offers on the table ".

#MUFCThe lack of communication with Ander Herrera played a major role in his initial plans. Herrera had been keen to stay, but the contract negotiations took place for three months early in the year – a period when he had two other offers on the table.

Peach also notes that United renewed its efforts after the final nomination of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and that the club was willing to pay a "high amount". But that seems to have been too little and too late for Herrera.

The same overwhelming story is independently reported by ESPN, explaining that, despite his preference to stay, Herrera was frustrated for three months after being "left in the dark".

The report says that United was offering better terms than PSG, but it was already too late. Herrera is expected to earn 200,000 euros a week for three years in France.
