The thunder hit the couple while they were on their farm
Thunder was killed at Assin Andoe Sibo Nkwanta, in the southern district of Assin, in the center of the country, 134 km from Accra.
According to an eyewitness, Yaw Mensah, Rita's father and Emmanuel Botwey's son-in-law, thunder and lightning immediately killed the couple on their farm.
"It started to rain, so we decided to leave," he said.
"We went to seek refuge nearby and used leaves to cover our heads. Suddenly, there was a loud bang followed by a flash. The lightning briefly blurred my eyesight and when I was able to see properly, I saw my wife and the deceased couple lying on the floor.
"I shook my wife until she became aware. But as the couple did not answer, I had to rush to the village for help. We took them to the hospital and we were told that the couple had lost their lives, "said Mensah.
The bodies were deposited at the morgue for autopsy.
