The African Football Confederation (CAF) has sacked Egypt's Amr Fahmy from his position as secretary general, according to BBC Sport Africa.

The Caf Executive Committee made its decision Thursday in Cairo before the draw for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The reason for the dismissal is not clear because Caf has not commented yet.

Fahmy was named in November 2017 while he was following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.

Fahmy's grandfather, Mourad, was secretary-general of the governing body of African football from 1961 to 1982.

Mourad was replaced by his son Mustapha, who held this position until 2010 before being named director of competitions at Fifa.

Morocco's Mouad Hajji, who was appointed as general coordinator of Caf earlier this year, is expected to replace Fahmy.

On Friday, the 24 finalists of this year's Nations Cup will find out who they will play when the tournament kicks off in June.

The draw will take place at 18:00 GMT.
