YPSILANTI, Mich. – A federal lawsuit revealed that women in Michigan 's only women' s prison suffered from deep itching and permanent scars, with officials taking more than a year to properly diagnose and treat a scabies outbreak.
The Detroit Free Press reported that the prosecution on behalf of prisoner Rebecca Smith was filed Thursday. Smith's lawyer, Daniel Randazzo, says that he has received letters from over 200 inmates at Huron Valley Prison, near Ypsilanti, who have been affected by the outbreak. parasitic mites that burrow under the skin and lay eggs.
