The golf ball that made golfers too good: the distance debate explained

[ad_1]

This weekend, the Masters – one of the most famous golf tournaments – will be played at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. This is an annual event since 1934 and the golf course has been updated several times over the years to keep pace with advances in sports technology. But now, some golfers are wondering if the golf ball updates have pushed things too far.

By using a modern golf ball, players are able to drive the ball much further than when the courses were designed. At the Augusta club, which opened in 1933, players hit the ball enough to fly over the obstacles to make the course difficult.

Improvements to the golf ball have raised an interesting question in the sport of golf: when has technology evolved so much that it threatens the way we play a sport? In golf, there are strong opinions on both sides of the golf "distance debate" – to find out how the golf ball has contributed to the current situation, be sure to watch the video above.
