The appointment of Evelyn Kumi Richardson, Designated Minister for the Bono Region, was finally approved by Parliament.
This was after a secret ballot was conducted in the House to determine his fate, following objections from members of minorities belonging to the Parliament's Nominating Committee.
Of the 210 votes cast, 124 voted in favor of the approval of his candidacy, while 85 members of Parliament were against. A vote was destroyed.
Members of the minority committee of parliamentarians did not want the appointment of the new minister approved for what they described as perjury.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu, is one of the deputies who opposed Richardson's approval.
According to them, the proposed candidate would have defied a government directive asking the appointees not to leave the country without authorization.
She was also charged with spending $ 54,000 of public funds on a private trip to Canada while she was the general manager of the Sunyani municipality in 2017.
Doubts were also expressed about his doctoral degree.
Minority members of the Nominating Committee affirmed that she had given herself the academic title although she did not provide proof of this in her resume (CV).
It is unclear whether or not she provided documentation in support of her academic title claims.
