In a Facebook post, the President said: "I thank the 124 Members of Parliament who, today, have duly approved my candidacy for the appointment of Mrs. Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, Regional Minister of Bono, and have warmly approved. I am confident that they will not regret their decision and that she will prove to be a remarkable minister, who will discharge her duties with integrity and in the interest of public welfare. "

Ms. Kumi-Richardson's approval took place on the night of Friday, April 12, 2019, after the proposed candidate won a secret ballot by majority vote.

One hundred and twenty-four MPs voted YES in favor of Mrs Richardson's approval, while 85 MEPs voted against her approval on the 210 votes cast.

A vote was rejected.

The minority refused to approve the appointment of Ms. Richardson last month after her appearance before the Parliamentary Nominating Committee.

Doubts were expressed about his doctoral degree, as minority members of the nominating committee claimed to have entrusted the academic laureate because she had not provided evidence on her resume.

The minority further accused Ms. Richardson of having spent $ 54,000 of public money on a private trip to Canada while she was Sunyani's general manager in 2017, defying a directive. from the government asking the appointees not to leave the country without authorization.
