How to eliminate worries about work, overcome stress and increase your life expectancy

If nothing is done, work stress can lead to anxiety, depression, coronary heart disease and an increased risk of heart attack.

And this problem is clearly on the rise. Nearly 40% of companies reported an increase in stress-related absences in the last year.

Dr. Andy Cope, author of The Little Book of Being Bright, has studied psychology and what makes us happy at work.

He said: "Everyone rushes into life. We have to start enjoying it.

"Last year, there were 70 million prescriptions for antidepressants written in England, so you can say that the modern world takes away happiness."

Here, Dr. Cope shares his advice on some of the most common complaints in the workplace.



Work can upset your life balance and affect your happiness

Problem: I can not cope with the volume of work.

Anti-stress counseling: "I see him every day and I fight myself. Everyone does the work of two or three people and there is no break.

"The best way to solve this problem is to work when you are as productive as possible.

"Most people have a part of the day where they are at their best – get through, feel exalted rather than tired by work.

"Acknowledge your current situation and plan your most difficult tasks for this period.

"Start by tackling the scariest thing on your to-do list."

Problem: I have back and neck pain.

Anti-stress counseling: "It's a warning sign and the way your body tells you to do something different.

"To remedy this, you must either adopt a good posture or sit upright and relieve tension. Or get up and go for a walk.

"We have this machismo culture, where we plow, have lunch at our office and do not give ourselves a break. The key is to go out in the fresh air.

"Another good advice is to breathe well. Breathe for five seconds, stand for six and exhale for seven.

"Do this five times a day to relieve tension."

Problem: My inbox is out of control with too many emails.

Anti-stress counseling: "Reduce the number of emails you send by 30%. You will have fewer emails in response.

"Use the phone or watch people face to face to build relationships with real people.

"If you make high quality connections, you will do more in five minutes of discussion than in five alternative emails."

Problem: I feel undervalued.

Anti-stress counseling: "It's more about self-esteem than reality, your boss underestimates you. If you feel unloved, then give more love.

"Make sure to congratulate your team members and say nice things about the people behind their backs.

"The more positive you are at work, the more positive people will feel about you.

"This should elicit positive feedback from your boss.

Problem: I'm stuck at my desk all day, gaining weight.

Anti-stress counseling: "It's all about personal care. Happiness is about taking care of yourself.

"The three pillars of this strategy are: eating, moving and sleeping.

"Respect the 80/20 rule with your diet. Eat well most of the time – 80% – but allow yourself some treats.

"Move to your gym or go for three outdoor walks each week.

"Sleep eight hours – it's so important. Sleep has a huge impact on your life.

"Friend with someone and go to the gym during your vacation. We are more productive if we take the time to take care of ourselves. "
