President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
President Nana has urged traditional leaders to abandon the practice of asking law enforcement officers to release people they arrest for acts of violence.
Mr. Akufo-Addo made the call on Saturday, April 13, 2019, the second day of his tour in the Ahafo region.
He met with the chiefs and residents of Kenyasi No 1 & 2, Ntotroso, Gyedu Wamanahinso and surrounding communities on the forecourt of the Southern District Assembly of Asutifi.
Addressing to them, the president urged leaders to stop now pleading in favor of perpetrators of violence arrested by the police.
He said, "Nananom let me plead for you to stop going to the police to release people who were arrested for taking part in acts of violence. With the adoption of the Self-Defense Groups Bill that I presented to Parliament, if we continue on this path, political violence will not stop. "
He reaffirmed his determination to put an end to political violence in the general elections, saying that the draft law on self-defense groups, once adopted, would not concern those who engaged in violence, but the great men who also engaged boys, whether they be deputies or ministers.
The Omanhene of Kenyasi no. 1, Nana Kofi Osei Abiri, in his welcome speech, pleaded with the government for it to help the community to add more infrastructure to an investigation police college built by the Kenyasi community No 1.
He also appealed to the government to help create technical and vocational schools to enable young people in the region to acquire employment skills.
He said the Ntotroso Nursing Schools and District Secondary Schools needed more infrastructure.
