ABOUT THIS ANALYSIS
The National Institute for Biomedical Research of the DRC (INRB) and WHO conducted a preliminary badysis of the data collected from the ring vaccination protocol. The badysis summarized here includes data between May 1, 2018 and March 25, 2019. This preliminary badysis was conducted to better understand whether the candidate vaccine rVSV-ZEBOV-GP is effective and helps prevent cases when it comes with the ring vaccination strategy. A more detailed badysis is being prepared and will be available in a peer-reviewed journal.
The Ebola outbreak in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri has recently shown an increase in the number of cases reported each week after several weeks of general decline. As of April 10, 2019, 1,066 confirmed and probable cases of Ebola infection were reported during this outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). There is no licensed vaccine against Ebola.
SAGE has recommended ring vaccination using the Extended Use Protocol / Compbadionate. It was launched seven days after the outbreak of the outbreak on August 1, 2018, after approval by the DRC's National Regulatory Authority and the Ethics Review Committee of the Kinshasa School of Public Health.
The ring vaccination cohort protocol in the DRC is based on previous experiences in West Africa (2, 3, 4, 5). This is a remarkable example of South-South collaboration, where 45 qualified Guinean and Nigerian researchers coordinated the field implementation under the direction of a senior Congolese researcher. Drawing on their experience in clinical trials in West Africa, Guinean teams have also helped train nearly 300 Congolese colleagues. The combination of this level of collaboration with the ring vaccination strategy and the rVSV-ZEBOV-GP vaccine is expected to help end the current Ebola epidemic in the DRC and to control epidemics in a similar way. efficient and fast as possible. Figure 2 summarizes the actions implemented in the field by the ring vaccination teams.
From August 1, 2018 to March 25, 2019, 951 confirmed and probable cases of Ebola infection were reported during the period badyzed. The ring vaccination research teams were able to define 679 rings and list contacts and contacts around 776 cases. In addition, 28,888 health care workers / front-line workers (health care workers / front-line workers) were vaccinated. For safety reasons and lack of community consent, it was not possible to define rings around 175 (18%) of the Ebola cases that occurred during this period (Figure 1) . A total of 100,754 contacts and contacts were identified and 91,492 eligible individuals who gave their informed consent were vaccinated (90.8% of all contacts and contact contacts listed were vaccinated in defined circles).
