The total number of presidential staff as of December 31, 2018 was 957, down from the 998 in 2017, according to the annual staff report from the presidency office presented to Parliament this week.

The report was submitted to the House in accordance with Article 11 of the 1993 Presidential Act.

The last figure is a reduction from the 998 that had been reported to Parliament for the year 2017.

The list sets at 10 the number of state ministers at the presidency, at 28 the number of presidential staff and at 254 other people appointed to lower political positions.

The total number of public service and public sector employees at the presidency stands at 665.

Parliament should consider the report when it comes back from the break.

The 2017 figures, which stood at 998, sparked criticism of the Akufo-Addo administration's commitment to exercise caution and protect public funds.

The Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), for example, called on Parliament to make a thorough badessment of the presidency's list of depopulation rights by removing people with vague positions and superfluous roles.

Critics were similar to those that President Nana Akufo-Addo had received for the appointment of 110 ministers.

When observers accused him of the imposing size of his government, the president justified the appointments on the grounds that the task ahead was huge and that they needed more hands to fulfill their mandate. .
