The Health Directorate of the East Awutu Senya Municipal Assembly (ASEMA) advised the population to seek prompt medical attention and to avoid any self-medication when She was sick.
Dr. Paul Dsane-Aidoo, City Manager of Health, who gave this opinion, said that in the past two weeks, the Directorate had registered about 61 cases of vomiting and diarrhea, including at the polyclinic Kasoa and some private dispensaries in the municipality.
He pointed out that all cases were negative and that samples sent to Korle-Bu University Hospital for other laboratory tests were also negative.
Dr. Dsane-Aidoo spoke at a social audit program organized by the National Commission for Civic Education in the municipality to allow citizens to hold those responsible accountable.
He advised people not to panic, but to continue to observe good hygiene practices and to keep their environment clean.
He added that community outreach programs were underway, with management thinking that there could be more unreported cases.
"Some people may be buying drugs at the nearest pharmacies, which could stop diarrhea, but it is important that these cases are first reported to hospitals for thorough medical examinations and treatment", did he declare.
The program brought together heads of government institutions, leaders, people with disabilities, badembly members, civic education clubs and market women.
Municipal officials from education, health, environmental health, security and urban roads took turns to explain their activities, progress and difficulties.
The program was sponsored by the European Union to strengthen citizen participation in governance.
Ms. Mercy Yawson, Municipal Disease Control Officer and researcher, advised the public to be cautious about the environment as the rainy season approaches.
"We are engaging in community activities to remind people of the best behaviors and practices as the rainy season approaches," she said.
She urged them to avoid eating cold foods, especially those sold by the roadside, and always wash their hands with soap under running water whenever they used the toilet.
Mrs. Lawson advised parents of patients with vomiting and diarrhea not to use their bare hands to take care of them to avoid any contamination.
She added that the cases reported so far relate to Kasoa Zongo, Lamptey, Opeikuman and surrounding areas, and urged citizens to report such cases to the nearest hospital or clinic for immediate attention. .
Participants called on leaders, religious and opinion leaders to help the Municipal Assembly find a lasting solution to sanitation problems.
