There was carnage at the start of the Chinese GP when Daniil Kvyat crashed against the McLarens of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.

Kvyat cut the front wing of Sainz's car which then launched it on Norris, sending the British teenager into flight.

The driver of Toro Rosso was sentenced to a vehicle penalty, but Kvyat said after the race that he wanted an explanation from the stewards, saying that it was an incident typical of the first round.

"I totally disagree with the sanction and will talk to the stewards in camera to hear their opinion," he told Sky F1.

"It was three cars in one corner and a car coming back very quickly on the track, the other car was sandwiched, and then I went in the air of a car that hit me from behind, and then I I got in Norris's car.

"I saw my onboard and Lando aboard.I honestly do not see this incident as very particular, it was a typical sandwich of turn 1. These things happen, especially in the first round, so I do not really understand [the penalty].
