RESIDENT P Landlords are required to require residence permits before renting their properties

Mr. Solomon Tettey Appiah, General Manager of the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality, urged the owners of the municipality to apply for residence permits to non-Ghanaians before leasing their properties.

The MCE issued this guideline in a public debate with local opinion leaders, residents' badociations, artisans, religious organizations, traders and youth groups from the Oyibi, Nanoman, Seduasi and Bawaleshie communities. (ONSBAC).

Mr. Appiah noted that residence permits normally established a paper trail so that when non-Ghanaians did not respect Ghanaian laws, they could be found and punished accordingly.

According to him, the country's owners have not thoroughly checked the background of foreigners before leasing their properties, adding: "We are always interested in their money and gifts."

Mr. Appiah also asked residents to be vigilant and meticulous and report any suspicious person and any suspicious activity within the municipality in order to act quickly.

He also called on operators of drinking bars, restaurants, mosques and churches to abide by the law and minimize noise nuisance.
