No disintegration. Star Wars Celebration Chicago fans had an exclusive overview of The mandalorian, the first live show of Star Wars, during a Sunday panel. Although most of the panel was webcast, two feature films were screened only for the public who traveled to Chicago.
The Mandalorian will be released on the Disney Plus Streaming Service when rival Netflix launches November 12, and Sunday sign provided More information on the show since it's been announced. Pedro Pascal (known to play Oberyn Martell in Game of thrones) will play the lead role and wear armor similar to that of the clbadic Boba Fett character.
The entire panel, with hidden exclusive footage, is still available on the Star Wars YouTube channel, but we've also integrated it here and summarized below:
Executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni first spoke to explain how they created the show. The two men met at the Skywalker Ranch around 2007. Filoni was the first person to see Iron Man and showed Favreau Clone Wars.
The underground world of Star Wars was a very rich storytelling environment, according to Favreau. He wanted to get back to the old Western movies and samurai that inspired George Lucas. Legends cannon, Star Wars novels and media created before Disney removes them from the movie with The Force Awakens of 2015, are also examined to create ideas for the show.
The members of the cast, Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano and Carl Weathers, came on the scene and gave more details to each of the characters they perform.
Pascal will play the main character as previously announced, the actor playing a little shy about the details.
"The Mandalorian is a mysterious lonely fighter in the far reaches of the galaxy," Pascal said. "Some might say that he has a questionable moral character."
The Carano character calls Cara Dune (we will update it when the spelling is confirmed on the name). She is an ex-rebel Shock Trooper.
Weathers plays Reef Carga, and his character will work closely with Pascal's.
"He's a bit of the head of this bounty hunter guild," said Weathers. "The Mando is a guy who, according to him, can do the job."
The panel exclusively showed participants an open sizzling reel with the Mandalorian walking on a bridge in an icy world. He quickly went through intimate moments, as well as backstage directors Deborah Chow, Bryce Dallas-Howard and Taika Waititi. The reel showed the Mandalorian vessel, called the razor's shield, and showed the character following a transponder in a shelter. Presumably, he was looking for a mark. We see Pascal getting dressed, Favreau noting that new planets, races, species and spaceships will be introduced.
"It's wonderful to hear the fans react," Weathers said.
The fans also had to literally be part of the series because there were not enough Stormtroopers for a scene. Members of the 501st cosplay group were recruited to help.
Favreau and Filoni take the lead on Twitter, including asking where were the Mandalorians in the pre-series and the original trilogy. Favreau finished one of these scripts at Christmas and Filoni wrote an episode.
By describing more of his character, Pascal pushes further the western edge and the samurai. "He has a lot of Clint Eastwood in it," said Pascal, pointing out that he had watched a lot of films by Sergio Leone and Kurosawa to get ready.
The fans present had another exclusive look at a scene taking place in a cantina. The Mandalorian and the Weathers' Reef are discussing a job and we are seeing Salacious Crumb at the pin on a market.
We see the Mandalorian meeting a group of Stormtroopers, who realize that the bounty hunter is outnumbered. "We have four against one," said a Stormtrooper.
"I like these chances," retorts Pascal's character.
The character of Werner Hergog offers him Bescar in exchange for the premium, dead or alive. This is not a bad offer because Bescar is the basis of Mandalorian armor.
"The world is more peaceful since the revolution," asks the character Herzgog, referring to the fall of the Empire. "Look out, I only see death and chaos."
Giancarlo Esposito is seen playing an imperial officer.
We also saw 4-LOM and IG-88 bounty hunters previously seen on Vader's Super Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back.
This article will be updated as we learn more about The Mandalorian.
