Police Investigate RSPCA Section for Fraud While Two Men Arrested

A Police are investigating a branch of the RSPCA for alleged fraud involving hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Two men have been arrested and an audit is currently underway at the West Norwood charity office in South East London.

Former administrator Ivan House told the Guardian that the fraud could reach £ 450,000.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "The police received an allegation of fraud on 3 September 2018 about a charity based in Norwood, South East London.

"On 12 September, two men aged 44 and 55 were arrested for fraud. Both were released under investigation. Officers from the South Zone Command Unit continue their investigations.

The RSPCA has faced a series of embarrbading incidents in recent years.

Last July, the Charity Commission criticized the Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone subsidiary for letting the president's daughter occupy and run a £ 700,000 cattery two doors from her mother's.

Last year, the commission also warned the RSPCA of mismanagement related to a payment to its former chief executive.

Peter Ralphs, the former chairman of the Shropshire branch, was also jailed for three years in January after stealing £ 184,000.
