EASYJET pbadengers were reportedly stranded at an airport for five hours while their aircraft was traveling to their final destination without them.

A flight Friday between London Gatwick and Lisbon had to be diverted to Porto because the runway was closed at the Lisbon airport.

The EZY 8717 pbadengers waited five hours at the airport in Porto before being informed that the plane had continued to Lisbon without them, said one pbadenger.

People have benefited from bus transfers for the rest of their trip, reports Surrey Live.

Frazer Rendell, one of the pbadengers, explained how "everyone was in shock".

The 48-year-old said she had learned that her flight had already been delayed from Gatwick because the air conditioning was not working.

Rendell says that they landed in Porto around one o'clock in the afternoon and that they were informed that they would get back in the plane once the plane refueled.

He said: "We arrived at the airport shortly after two in the morning and were sitting there until 4:30 pm, until someone told us that your plane took off and that he left for Lisbon without you.

"Shocked and disappointed"

"Everyone was shocked that the plane left without us in the same condition that it happened."
At 17:50, the pbadengers boarded the bus and went to Lisbon.

They arrived around 10 pm, eight hours later than expected.

Rendell said that he was extremely disappointed.

Sun Online has contacted easyJet for comments.

An easyJet spokesman told Surrey Live: "easyJet can confirm that flight EJU8717 connecting London Gatwick to Lisbon on April 12 was diverted to Porto because of the closure of the landing strip of Lisbon.

"Once in Porto, the flight was constrained by slots and the decision was made to disembark the pbadengers for their comfort.

"The delay in the slots unfortunately caused the crew to exceed its legal limit of working hours, so the pbadengers received refreshment coupons and offered bus transfers to Lisbon.

"After the landing of the customers, a time slot became available, so the flight operated an empty sector bound for Lisbon in order to be able to operate later sectors.

"Although this is beyond the control of easyJet, we would like to apologize to the pbadengers for the inconvenience and thank them for their patience.

"The safety of its pbadengers and crew is the highest priority of easyJet."
