A group calling itself Center for Policy Development (CDP) wants the government to stop paying compensation to nurses and teachers in training.
The Center believes that these funds could be used for other purposes that will have a positive impact on the education of these trainees.
After taking office in 2017, the nuclear power plant resumed the payment of compensation after its removal by the Mahama administration.
However, speaking to Citi News, Ishmael Bin Yahuza, executive director of the Center for Policy Development, said the allowances would deplete the coffers of the nation.
"Even though we have enough money, we have other equally important areas that deserve special attention. You go to our basic schools and our hospitals, you will discover that they lack the basic tools with which to work. We believe that the money should be used for other purposes than to pay compensation. They could also use it to develop their infrastructure. "
Restored allowances
The allocation issue for nurses in training became a major element of the election campaign in 2016 after the New Patriotic Party promised to restore payments that had been removed by the Mahama government.

Mahama gives up trainee benefits

Nurses in the Upper East region warned that the status of the benefits would influence their vote in the December 2016 poll.
But the government insisted that the decision allowed it to expand various health and education facilities in the country, as well as lift restrictions on admission to various training institutions .
