The first episode of HBO's "Game of Thrones" season eight started on Sunday with a major surprise: a whole new sequence of titles.
Since the beginning of season 1, the fantastic HBO series has debuted with the same iconic musical theme of the composer Ramin Djawadi, who plays as a 3D map of Westeros and Essos, the fictional places of the series.
The original idea was to publicize the fictional world of George R.R. Martin in the same way that a reader could orient himself by consulting the maps of the first pages of Martin's fantastic novels.
Angus Wall Scissors Wall of Rock Entertainment goes further by moving mechanical animation like a kind of self-winding mechanism. We see castles, trees and bridges springing from the ground and climbing as the music grows.
But now, in its last season, Game of Thrones has completely transformed the opening credits
In the eighth season, the wall fell, the White Walker's army headed for Winterfell and Cersei was preparing for the Battle of King's Landing.
Although we have already seen these locations in the title sequence, they now look totally different. There is a huge hole in the wall and the blue tiles are turning as the King of the Night's army progresses towards Last Hearth and approaches Winterfell.

At Winterfell, we do not only see the Stark seal and the iconic weirwood tree, but the credits now lead us inside Winterfell, in the Great Hall where the big families of the North gather.

The credits also take fans to the Winterfell crypt.

Then, at King's Landing, we see the iconic Throne Hall, the Iron Throne House that fascinates and ambitions our favorite characters for eight seasons.

This is not the first time credits are changing in the series

Raven-eyed fans may have noticed that the credit sequence had changed before.
The best-known example is Winterfell, which has appeared in many forms: Stark family home, ransacked city and bastion of the Bolton family.
After the defeat of Ramsay Bolton in the "Battle of the Bastards", the Sigil Stark returned victoriously to Winterfell, both in the series and in the title sequence.

The title sequence has also undergone a subtle evolution since 2011, according to its designer Wall, who claims to have updated the animation each new season.
"The most important debate is always about what to leave and what to exclude," Wall said in an Entertainment Weekly article in March. "Would we have loved to show the movement of every army? Yes, but it's an amazing job just to create different locations and different versions of each location."
It now seems that Wall finally has the opportunity to show White Walker's army the progress in Westeros. We can not wait to see how the title sequence evolves throughout the remainder of season eight.
