The Accra-Tema Highway, also known as the Kwame Nkrumah Highway
The executive director of the Public Security Bureau (BPS) is concerned about the Accra-Tema highway, one of the busiest roads in Ghana, which has suffered serious fatalities since its construction in 1965.
In a statement obtained by Myjoyonline, Nana Yaw Akwada said an investigation by her agency revealed "very disturbing developments" along the 19-kilometer stretch that connects Accra to Tema, a town on the Atlantic coast. Ghana.

2) Redefining with immediate effect the buffer zone along the highway and remove (or move) all encroachers; whether it is a public or private establishment.
3) Provide effective one-year demarcation systems with badociated maintenance program to combat high traffic volume.
4) Provide police patrol services dedicated solely to the suppression of speeding and other traffic violations, in addition to the provision of security services for disabled vehicles.
According to figures obtained in 2008 by BPS, nearly 65,000 vehicles crossed the highway daily. In addition, the statistics for 2017 reveal that road crashes are the leading cause of death in the country, compared to all public safety events, with an average of seven deaths per day.
"We therefore urge your team to deal with this matter with the utmost urgency to prevent further carnage and unnecessary deaths," Akwada said.
It is addressed in particular to the Ministry of Transport, the Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission, the Director of the Ghana Highway Authority and the Urban Road Media Department.
