Basic education in Ghana now extends to SHS – GES Boss

The Ghana Education Service announced that the new curriculum introduced by this service will expand basic education from primary to secondary education.

He said the changes are holistic and will affect every aspect of the country's education process.

"The reforms that interest us concern the whole of the school reform in which we consider the entire education system and all levels. We need reforms in the content of education, teaching and other aspects. According to the new reform, basic education will mean education of the KG at SHS, "Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, general manager of the GES, told Monday morning.

He said the new approach to schooling would ensure that children are able to fully understand what is taught by teachers.

"Children need to be evaluated consistently so that the teacher, the school, the students, and the parents know if their children are doing well and are learning what they expect. In grades 2, 4 and 6, we will conduct a national badessment to help us identify the challenges that students face. Teachers will continue however with their tests and clbadroom work.

Professor Opoku Amankwa also justified the decision to introduce new uniforms for students.

"We want to start making students think about the future. The curriculum is changing and it is important for students to know and start to see themselves as seniors, hence the change of uniform, "he said.

According to him, the service expects the parents to provide the uniforms to their pupils "as they have always done". Nevertheless, the government can nevertheless badume responsibility for disadvantaged communities.
