Pax Romana, others donate to Kpando Prisons

Kpando (V / R), April 15, GNA – Members of Pax
Romana, the international movement of Catholic students of the University of
Health Sciences and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Hohoe and Hohoe School of Public Health
The Midwifery Training School chapter donated various items to the women's inmates.
Kpando local prisons.

Articles include; cartons of soap, bags of
corn, detergents and rolls of toilet paper.

Mrs. Ivy Wemegah, President of Pax Romana,
Midwifery Training School Chapter who presented the points on behalf of the members
chapters, stated that the gesture was part of the Movement's charitable activities
for the semester.

Mr. Cyril Torsu, President of Pax Romana, UHAS
chapter also said that young Catholics they were asked to give alms as a key
principle of the lenten season and that they also visited the sick at the
hospitals.

Amenyedzi, officer in charge of Kpando's local prisons who received the objects
on behalf of the detainees expressed gratitude to the Movement.

He said that there were 256 detainees including; 30
who were in remand, resulting in congestion with 20 detainees in one room.

Mr. Amenyedzi said that because of congestion, a
a special place had been reserved for quarantine and the treatment of detainees
communicable diseases.

He said that the monthly medical screening is done by
the penitentiary clinic to make sure the detainees were in good health with those who needed
medical attention directed to health facilities.

Mr. Amenyedzi said the prison's sewing workshop
trained inmates to equip them with employable skills and asked for
public support.
