The NDC national president's lawyer praised the state's decision to sue his client, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, on charges of conspiring to cause harm.

"They are welcome," said Victor Adawudu, Joy FM 's attorney on Monday in Top Story, adding that the trial "would go nowhere".

The trial, which begins Tuesday, will be the first time that an incumbent party president is being prosecuted.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, considered a soft-spoken politician, was heard as a hard voice in a tape that sank in February.

The NDC president, while addressing party communicators, reportedly accepted the policy of insults and revealed his political plans to create a sense of insecurity before the 2020 elections.

He categorically denied any comments as the party's flag bearer in 2020, John Mahama, tried to streamline some of his remarks in the recording.

Some had thought that beyond the party in power that marked political points, the saga would not travel the path of the pursuit.

The Attorney General said he would, by opening the case that Samuel Ofosu Ampofo should be convicted of conspiracy for badaulting a public officer in addition to the conspiracy to cause harm.

The national communications officer of the party also faces the same accusations after publicly admitting that the party chairman had made the remarks that were attributed to him.

Despite the narration of his client's constant cooperation with the police since their interest was stung, Victor Adawudu expressed his surprise at the escalation.

"I did not expect it to go anywhere," he said, predicting that the state would fight to get himself convicted.

"For us, this tape is nothing criminal", he maintained the innocence of his client. The practitioner of justice, however, would not rule out the fact that the state had difficulty producing evidence that went beyond what the band intended.

This evidence, if it exists, will have to be provided to the accused, he explained.

This case, he said, was the first confrontation of the law of his client, Victor Adawudu emphasized the behavior of his client and his personal background.

Victor Adawudu also endorsed a party statement calling on supporters to rally in front of the Accra High Court for trial.

This is an opinion that should not go unnoticed by supporters of Ghana's biggest opposition. The visit of Samuel Ofosu Ampofo on 4 March 2019 to the police headquarters in Accra, where he was charged for the first time, drew a crowd.

The second coming of the supporters is "very necessary", the accused's lawyer alluded to the political nature of the trial.

In light of the law, this case makes a lot of noise, but it is also political and "everything can happen," said Victor Adawudu.

This is the second time in 12 months that a national NDC opposition party executive is charged with a criminal offense.

In March 2018, CND deputy general secretary Koku Anyhidoho was charged with treason after declaring "there would be a civil uprising" and established links with the history of the coup d'etat in the country .

This is as a result of Ghana's ratification of a controversial military agreement with the United States, against which the NDC has demonstrated.

But in August 2018, the state dropped all charges and declared that it was disinterested. With the interest of suing Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, there is some skepticism that this will not falter.
