And June Brown, star of EastEnders, says she's not planning to quit – or consume alcohol – even at the approach of her 93rd birthday … because she says that it is useless to give up her age.

"I'm going to die of something pretty quickly, so why not enjoy it myself," said the actress, who first arrived at Albert Square 34 years ago.

Miss Brown said that she had tried switching to an electronic cigarette, but that she had found it too cumbersome.

Miss Brown has to play in ITV's "Hard to Pleasure" movie, in which she and six other famous retirees are testing cutting-edge gadgets.

"All the machines were pretty useless," she said. "You can have the best gadget in the world, but if you can not read the instructions, what's the point?

'I have an iPhone but it's too much like a computer. All this technology is supposed to bring people together, but since many seniors can not do it, they feel even more isolated.

"They have no one to talk to and nothing to revive them."

Miss Brown added that she felt "lucky" to have her job because it is "what keeps me alive".

The clbadically trained actress lives at home in Surrey since the death of her second husband, Robert Arnold, in 2003.

Last month, Miss Brown revealed that she was losing her sight because of macular degeneration.
