Ernest Chemists Supports Gynae Company's Free Surgical Strategy

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Ghana (SOGOG), in collaboration with Ernest Chemists Limited, has embarked on a 3-day Fistula Repair and Gynecologic Surgery Program in Nkwanta District, Oti Region. Ghana. The surgical consultation took place from 12 to 14 April 2019 at the Nkwanta District Hospital.

The specialized team of specialist gynecologists-obstetricians and consultants as well as other Accra health professionals were able to perform a total of 18 major complex surgeries during the consultation, including 6 myomectomies (surgical removal of fibroids uterine), 5 total abdominal hysterectomies, 4 hysterectomies, 1 repair of vesico-uterine fistula (UVF) and 2 exploratory laparotomies. With the support of Ernest Chemists Limited, there was a good stock of quality drugs for surgeries, as well as to improve postoperative recovery of patients.

Vivian Abesie, recipient, expressed her thanks to the team of doctors, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Ghana (SOGOG) and Ernest Chemists Limited for organizing the outreach program and having it operated. . Dr. Promise Sefogah (consultant obstetrician and gynecologist), SOGOG's chief financial officer and chair of the outreach committee, who was part of the team of surgeons, said this; "As medical specialists, we are excited to use our skills to help engage with these less privileged and vulnerable women in Nkwanta District. Our team of dedicated physicians worked tirelessly during these three days to perform as many surgeries as possible. " He recounted all the experience adding that "the team arrived in Nkwanta Friday after eight hours of travel, performed surgeries until around midnight, and then took a break to sleep about four hours.

And then we got up early Saturday morning to continue surgeries and reviews until the early morning of Sunday, closing around 1am. We completed all successfully booked cases, toured the departments to ensure that all patients were recovering satisfactorily, and then left Nkwanta on Sunday afternoon. We were pleased with the participation and success of the surgeries and the awareness as a whole. It is always a deeply rewarding exercise, though tedious for God and the country.

Dr. Sefogah then congratulated the management and staff of the Nkwanta District Hospital, particularly their theater and anesthesia staff, for the support provided to the team of specialists visiting the center. . He also deeply appreciated Ernest Chemists Limited for working with SOGOG to make fistula repair and gynecologic surgical radiation a huge success. According to SOGOG's Chief Financial Officer, in recent years, the Society had funded such activities through contributions, solely in their way of giving back to the poor and vulnerable in underprivileged communities in Ghana. The surgical team was led by Dr. Gabriel Ganyaglo and included other members, including Dr. James Boachie, Dr. Henry Ekow Yanney and Dr. Jeffery Boye.
