The Coalition for the Right to Information (Ghana) urged the president to name only those who have demonstrated their commitment and their defense of human rights to the RTI Commission.
They warned against appointing "ignorant" people to the Commission, which should oversee the implementation of the Right to Information Act.
At a press conference in Accra, Akoto Ampaw, a member of the coalition, said: "We do not want any K3k3 party activist, that it 's all about it. a party activist or a non-party activist, he must commitment and defense of human rights ".
"We do not want an ignorant appointed commissioner, Mr. President. We do not want the person to know that the position is appointed commissioner, "he added.
The Coalition also called for "effective mbad education" of the population on the provisions of the law and their rights, while adding that the necessary resources, such as funding, should be provided for the law to work.
The RTI bill was drafted for the first time in 1999, revised in 2003, 2005 and 2007, but was not tabled in Parliament until 2010. However, it could not be pbaded because of the many recommendations for amendment. It was brought back to the sixth legislature but could not be adopted until it expired on January 6, 2016.
Momentum to pbad the bill has grown in 2017 following the formation of the Media Coalition on RTI. The Coalition, with the support of other civil society organizations over the past 11 months, has been lobbying Parliament to pbad the bill.
