Atuabo (WR) April
16, GNA – Members of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Mining and Energy
have welcomed the success of the indigenization of the Ghana National Gas Company.
They emphasized
that indigenization has allowed the country to spend more than $ 5,000 per month in
expatriate staff.
Members led by
Vice President George Mireku Duker, MP for Tarkwa Nsuaem, said
their joy after a day of work at the Atuabo gas processing plant for
evaluate the business activities and the way forward.
Mr. Duker expressed
satisfaction with the performance of the treatment plant, which he describes as a
valuable national badet managed only by Ghanaian engineers.
He was also
pleased that the company implemented the local content policy and was up to it
the task regarding his corporate social responsibility to the communities
in which they functioned by providing them with social amenities such as good
roads, drinking water and schools.
Mr. Duker in this
suggested that part of the mining sector's revenue should be
be invested in CSR activities in mining communities. "I think the
the good work gas is doing in Ghana should be replicated in the mining sector
as well."
He stressed that
considering what they saw at the factory, there was no way that the committee
not help Ghana's gas if they have to present any need at home for
support. "We believe that any help given to the company would be put
wisely ".
Mr. Duker praised
Ghana gas for the success of the connection and the reverse flow of gas that had gone a
long to reduce the number of power outages in the country.
Mr. Adams Mutawakilu
ranking member, also congratulated the company for setting up a world of clbad
health, safety and the environment as well as security measures, which made it possible to
the company to record zero accidents since its creation.
He said what was
what was happening at the Atuabo gas processing plant was an indication
Ghanaians, when given a little help could do wonders and congratulated the
management and staff for their hard work.
He also rented the
company for the successes cited up to now and asked that society be given
the support needed to increase production.
Mr. Robert Lartey,
Senior Director in charge of operations, was pleased that the select committee
visited the factory and promised that everything would be done to maintain their
standards.
He said that the factory, which became operational in 2014
and entered commercial production in 2015 provided some poor gas to a number
private companies, including; Twyford and announced that the work of expansion on
the enclave of Prestea was completed and in June of this year the lean gas would
provided to many private companies in this enclave for the production of electricity.
He said here 2024 the
company would expect raw gas from larger fields and they were looking for
to increase the current production capacity by 150 million euros
standard cubic feet of gas at 220 mscf per day.
Mr. Lartey said
internal discussions on the expansion were underway and once completed
it would be put in the public domain.
