Liverpool could welcome the long-term absentees while they're looking to complete the work against the Portuguese in the Champions League

Jurgen Klopp said the new adjustment Joe Gomez was ready to play a role for Liverpool in the second leg of his quarterfinal match of the UEFA Champions League against Porto on Wednesday.

England international Gomez has not played since breaking his leg in a Premier League match against Burnley in December.

The 21-year-old returned to the bench to win the 2-0 win over Porto last week. Dejan Lovren is unavailable due to illness, he is ready to return to the center in the reverse encounter.

Publisher's choice

Joel Matip seems more likely to retain his place alongside the mainstay Virgil van Dijk, but Gomez could be called to the Estadio do Dragao.

"He's getting better and better," Klopp said at Tuesday's pre-game press conference.

"That he is ready to play in the Champions League 90 minutes after the start of the competition, I'm not so sure.

"Can he come and do a great job? I would say yes, it's possible, and that's the most important thing for us.

Liverpool are well placed to qualify for the semi-finals thanks to goals scored by Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino at Anfield.
