Kwaku Boahen's lawyers, deputy communications director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisted that their client was innocent of the charges against him.

Mr. Boahen is being sued with NDC National President Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for conspiracy to harm a public officer in relation to the contents of an audio cbadette that has been screened.

The state first presented its case in court on Tuesday.

Edudzi Tamakloe, Kweku Boahen's attorney, told Citi News that the state had all concocted the story.

"We have clearly shown in court that even the facts presented in court by a learned Attorney General have no connection with the truth."

"A little diligence and investigation would have shown that our client, Mr. Kwaku Boahen, could not have been to Accra on February 3, 2019. The state's decision to concoct a story, [story] in order to base a charge of conspiracy tells you the sad state we have arrived at. "

Boahen and NDC National President Samuel Ofosu Ampofo were released on bail Tuesday by a court in Accra.

They got a deposit of 100,000 GH ¢ each with a deposit each.

The two national leaders of the NDC pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges to cause harm and aggression to a public official.

Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Joseph Kpemka said the prosecution would be able to produce evidence to support the charges against the defendants.

"We have just given the accusations and the facts. Evidence will be presented by witnesses in court and we will present documents. We will not discuss the merits of the case but we have rendered a judgment based on a full review of the facts and circumstances of the case before arriving at the charges we have brought against the accused and we are confident of the facts that we will be able to present facts to support the charges, "he said.
