Charlize Theron stated that she was raising her first child as a girl after introducing her to the world as a boy.
The Hollywood actress said that Jackson, age seven – one of her two adopted children – was three when the boy told him, "I'm not a boy."
South African Theron, 43, said she raised "two beautiful girls."
She told the Daily Mail, "Yes, I thought she was also a boy. Until she looks at me when she was three years old and says, "I'm not a boy!"
"So this is it! I have two beautiful girls who, like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see it flourish.
"They are born who they are and where exactly in the world the two are found as they grow up, and what they want to be, it's not up to me to decide."
"My job as a parent is to celebrate them, to love them and to make sure they have everything they need to be what they want."
"And I will do everything in my power to ensure that my children have this right and are protected within it."
Theron, known to have starred in films such as The Devil's Advocate and Mighty Joe Young, adopted Jackson in 2012 and his other daughter, August, was adopted three years later.
This is not the first time Theron mentions having two daughters. Last December, during the Actors on Actors segment for Variety, she told Black Panther actor Michael B Jordan that she had "two black and beautiful African-American girls."
