Ghana's Chief of Education and Penitentiary Services Council, the Chief Superintendent, Victoria Adzewodah, sought legal support from prison officers at the main detention center to determine the age of the persons sent to them.
She added that even if the police were not supposed to examine the physical of those who had been indicted, but only the medical report indicating the age and the documents allowing to accommodate the detainees, some of them were obviously adults.
She stated that a valid detention order, a social investigation report, a police referral form and a medical report were the only forms authorized by law to receive detainees, police officers, and police officers. Establishment were forced to accept adults.
Ms. Adzewodah stated this in her presentation on the main prison center at a round table.
It was organized by the Center for Democratic Governance (CDD-Ghana) on the theme "Ghana's Juvenile Justice System: Achieving the Goals of Ghana's Correctional Centers".
This is part of the strategic plans of the Ghana-CSD for the next five years to bring Ghanaians into dialogue on the system and its progress.
