The former Gunners midfielder admits that he was not expecting a Spanish coach to be competing to rank among the top four and win the glory of the Europa League.

Unai Emery has exceeded expectations at Arsenal for the club to be on the verge of concluding a "remarkable season," said Parlor.

A Spanish tactician has been entrusted with the reins of North London during the summer of 2018, at the end of Arsene Wenger's iconic tenure, which lasted 22 years.

He was a confirmed interpreter during stays in Seville and Paris Saint-Germain, but a period of adaptation was expected in a new environment and with a team that was outside the Champions League places.

Emery however managed to rank among the top four and qualify for the semifinals of the Europa League in his first campaign. Parlor was impressed by the progress made despite considerable obstacles.

The former Gunners midfielder said Sky sports: "I did not expect Arsenal to be in the top four at this point of the season.

"With the arrival of a new manager, there have been a lot of changes, but if they finish fourth, the season has to be remarkable.

"I made them down to finish fifth or sixth, then they could continue on this season, but they are currently in a very good position."

Parlor added to another productive European race for a manager who had already enjoyed continental success in his home country: "Valencia will not be an easy semifinal, but Emery has an excellent record in the competition and plays a really strong team every time. They have a real chance.

"Emery also knows, like Manchester United a few years ago, [winning the Europa League] is an avenue in the Champions League, which is very important for the club, which has not participated for two or three seasons.

"On the financial level, they missed and also players because they want to play in the Champions League."

After booking their place in the last four of the Europa League, Arsenal will return to the league on Sunday after meeting with the Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

They will then make two trips to the Midlands to face the Wolves and Leicester before coming to Valencia on May 2nd.
