MARYSVILLE, Ohio (AP) – Honda is slowing production of Accord sedans as car buyers continue to favor SUVs and trucks.

The Japanese automaker has announced it will temporarily shut down a second-team production line in August at its badembly plant in Marysville, Ohio. The transition should resume production in several years.

Honda says that the line being closed produces about 55,000 vehicles a year, most of which are deals.

A spokeswoman for the company said there would be no layoff, but that Honda would offer voluntary buyouts to some employees.

Honda says the reduction will also affect production at its Ohio engine and transmission plants.

This year 's Accord sales rose 4.6% until March but fell by nearly 10% last year.

Trucks and SUVs accounted for 70% of new vehicle sales in the United States this year.
