Mortuary strike again The Association threatened to lay down its tools in the face of low wages and poor working conditions

The Ghana Mortuary Workers' Association (MOWAG) has threatened for the second time an indefinite national strike against what they have described as the government's reluctance to respond to their demands.

In March 2019, the Association defined its tools for low wages and poor working conditions.

The strike was canceled on the third day of the protest after a meeting with the National Labor Commission in the hope that their grievances would be met.

Addressing Citi News, however, MOWAG Secretary General Richard Jordan said he had found no progress in the said negotiations, hence the imminent strike.

"As I speak to you, there has been no sign of negotiation. We think some people are still conspiring. It is therefore necessary for us to show our discontent. We do not know when, but we will communicate clearly to the public and the media. We will not be intimidated and intimidated as if we did not know what we are doing. We are tired of stories and we move here and there. We do not take anything illegally from anyone. "

The Association declared on Tuesday, March 4, 2019 an indefinite strike for its members for their low wages and poor working conditions.

MOWAG subsequently canceled its nationwide strike after three days of disrupted service.

The decision was taken after the group management met with the National Labor Commission.

Prior to the meeting, the Fair Wages and Wages Committee called the workers' strike an illegal morgue.

The Commission stated that the group had not followed the approved procedure before declaring the claim action.

During the short strike period, several bereaved families were abandoned in public morgues across the country; unable to recover the bodies of their loved ones to bury them or drop them due to the action.
