Serena Williams has launched a venture capital firm that has already invested in more than 30 companies

On Wednesday, the tennis legend publicly unveiled the details of its investment company, Serena Ventures. The venture capital firm has been quietly supporting companies since 2014 and has already invested in more than 30 companies.

"I launched Serena Ventures with a mission to give opportunities to founders in many industries," Williams said in his Instagram release.

Serena Ventures was created to provide opportunities for a diverse set of founders, the firm said, especially women and people of color. The investments will go to start-up companies that value "individual empowerment, creativity and opportunities," according to the company's website.

In addition, the investment company will work to mentor young founders and emerging entrepreneurs.

On the Serena Ventures website, Alison Rapaport is appointed Vice President of the firm and the only employee other than Williams. Rapaport, a former badet manager at JPMorgan, will oversee the fund's portfolio and new investments.

Serena Ventures' investments span many sectors, including food, health and wellness, e-commerce and fashion. Its portfolio includes women-focused businesses, such as coworking start-up Wing and Billie's razor brand; Little Spoon Organic Baby Food Delivery Personalized Delivery Service and Daily Harvest and Gobble Daily Meal Delivery Services; the Masterclbad online course provider; fitness company connected to Tonal home; and the LOLA stamp subscription service.
