Jarrell Miller said he was cheated after drug test failures forced an upcoming fight with Anthony Joshua to be abandoned.

In a video message posted on Instagram, Miller said that it was "time to act properly" and pledged to "come back better".

Miller's participation in the heavyweight fight in New York on June 1 was already threatened after the VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) informed both sides of an adverse discovery in a drug testing sample, the thus depriving a license for the date at Madison Square Garden.

Miller retained the right to request a new sample and re-apply for a license to challenge Joshua in the American debut of the champion.

However, a second anti-doping rule violation by Miller means the fight was out of card, said promoter Eddie Hearn.

Responding to the initial negative finding on Tuesday, Miller had written on Instagram that he "had never knowingly taken prohibited stuff and when I heard the news, I was totally shocked" .

"My team and I defend integrity, decency and honesty, together we will defend that with all we have," he said.

"It was a voluntary test that I was very happy to do and these results came just a week after another voluntary test I had taken that was completely clean.

But on Friday, he took a different tone by telling fans: "I messed it up. I made a bad call. (There were) a lot of ways to handle the situation, I treated it badly and I pay the price.

"I missed a great opportunity and I have a hard time inside. My heart is bleeding right now. I hurt my family, my friends, my team and my supporters.

"But I'm confessed to that. I will take care of it. I will correct it. I will come back better and the experience makes me humble.

Miller said the boxers "went through a lot" and that he did not want to give a "bad reputation" to his fellow fighters.

An adverse outcome for GW1516, a metabolic modulator also known as cardarine and endurobol, was established in a sample on March 20.

Hearn had already started looking for alternative opponents since the start of the first update of VADA, and he wrote on social media on Friday: "We have just learned from VADA that Jarrell Miller has now failed to a separate second test for an additional substance.

Hearn's Matchroom Sport had long been planning to develop Joshua's profile on the American boxing market, as the place of the fight, to which they remain loyal, and the Brooklyn Miller had been specially selected to maximize its attraction.

Press Association Sport understands that several opponents, including his compatriot Michael Hunter, remain in the running to replace Miller.

Attempts were made to contact the representatives of Miller and VADA, but none of them were available for comment.
