United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has comforted the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the entire country, following the sudden death of Major-General Francis Vib-Sanziri, chief of the Ghana Mission Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
During a telephone conversation with President Akufo-Addo on Friday, April 19, 2019, António Guterres described the late Major General Francis Vib-Sanziri as an excellent officer of the army, who distinguished himself with distinction.
President Akufo-Addo, in a statement, extended his sincere condolences to his widow, Police Commissioner Beatrice Vib-Sanziri, to her children and family, to the Minister of Defense, Chief of Staff Defense, Chief of the Defense Staff, Officers, Men and Women of the Ghana Armed Forces, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Members of UNDOF .

About Major General Vib-Sanziri
Since joining the Ghana Armed Forces in 1985, Major General Vib-Sanziri has had a distinguished military career nationally and internationally. Director General of International Peace Support Operations at Armed Forces Headquarters since April 2017, he was also Deputy Director of Ghanaian Army Operations (1996-1998) and Deputy Head of the Military Academy from Ghana (2002-2004), commander of an infantry battalion (2004-2009), director of international peacekeeping support operations in 2009 and army secretary at army headquarters land (2010-2011). In 2014, he was appointed Director General Joint Operations at Headquarters. He has been Director General of the National Organization for Disaster Management from 2015 to 2017.
Major-General Vib-Sanziri's vast experience in peacekeeping includes deployments to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in 1988 and 1991 of the United Nations Assistance Mission. in Rwanda (UNAMIR) in 1993 and 1994 and the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in 2007. He also served with the States Monitoring Group of the Economic Community of African States of the United Nations West in Liberia in 1990, Sierra Leone in 1999 and 2000, and later with the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL). From 2011 to 2014, he was a strategic military planner in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the United Nations.
Major-General Vib-Sanziri holds a Master's degree in Military Arts and Science from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States, with a postgraduate certificate in Public Administration from the University of California. 39; Institute of Management and Public Administration of Ghana; and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography and Rural Resource Development from the University of Ghana.
