Wa, April 20
GNA – The Regional Secretariat of the National Youth Authorities of the Upper West Harvested
1,022 bags of corn last year as part of the Youth in Plantations program, for food and employment
Program (PFJ) set up to ensure food security and stimulate job creation.
The National
The Youth Authority (NYA) supported 120 young people in the region as part of a pilot project.
under the PFJ in 2018 to grow 120 acres of maize.
Ghana
Penitentiary Service, participating in the program during the pilot project in the
the same year, also harvested 120 bags of corn, a feat that encouraged the NYA
repeat the course this year.
The director of
Programs and Operations of the NYA National Secretariat, Mr. Mumuni Sulemana,
says that two-thirds of the products would be donated to youth either to cultivate
again or for sale to support other income-generating activities.
The rest of the
products would be given to the buffer company as part of the activities of the Authority
contribution to food security in the country, he added.
He told the NYA
piloted the program to determine its potential for effective
young people in agriculture as part of the national PFJ program.
Speaking to a
ceremony in Wa to deliver the product to the young, the deputy chief
Mr. Bright Acheampong, a NYA executive, said that it was an obligation
young people to contribute to national development, adding: "We are all
involved in the construction of our motherland.
He added that
the success of the program was an indication that young men and women
ready to contribute to national development and expressed the hope that
they would be able to replicate the result without the support of the NYA.
"I hope that in
this agricultural season, you will be able to hold and have sustenance
to be able to do it in its own way and have the product, "he said.
"As and when
you grow up and you are able to reap the necessary benefits, too
to be able to help others ".
The deputy
The Director of Prisons, Mr. Christopher Nyamedi, provided NYA with the prison
willingness of the service to join forces with the Authority to intensify the program of
the benefit of the region and the nation.
The game
Archibald Donkoh Junior, regional director of the Western Region of the NYA, said he
working to minimize the challenges that young people have faced during the past year of cultures
season and help improve their business.
"We are all
know what the pilot projects are supposed to be, after the project, study it, know
challenges and what needs to be improved, "he said.
"We will
take steps to reduce some of the challenges you faced last year. "
