CDC: Study Shows South Carolina Ranked Third in Country for STDs | New

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX CAROLINA) – According to a new study, the growing number of badually transmitted diseases is increasing in South Carolina.

The recent STD report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that the number of cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in South Carolina is the third highest in the country.

The state ranks 5th for cases of chlamydia and 4th for cases of gonorrhea. The study found that both infections are particularly common in women.

South Carolina did not rank among the first for syphilis cases, but the infection is not very common according to the study.

The CDC suggests practicing abstinence, using condoms, having few partners and being vaccinated against HPV to prevent STDs.

According to the CDC, more than 2.3 million cases of STDs have been reported nationwide.
