GNA – Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) says it will take administrative action
sanctions against two staff members of the Internally Created Fund (IGF)
extort money from unsuspecting residents.
Both,
Francis Tetteh and Sadik Ibrahim, who are city guards employed by the Assembly,
they say use the name of the badembly to collect money from developers
under the pretext of giving them building permits.
Ms. Adwoa
Amoako, general manager of Tema West Municipal, told Ghana's news agency
that she had received evidence against both men confirming that they were
engaging in extortion and would be subject to disciplinary sanctions
deter other staff.
Ms. Amoako
stressed that "I will take action against any worker who goes to take
residents' money without the authorization of the Assembly ", adding that
his outfit could even end their appointment.
She noted that
these acts have been detrimental to the development of the region, both
city guards involved were piling up the proceeds of the badembly that needed to be
together to finance development projects in the municipality.
She emphasized
that its objective was to develop the area in accordance with the vision of the
President to cut the municipality of the metropolis of Tema.
The MCE urged
residents and potential promoters not to give money to a staff member but should
personally visit the TWMA offices and transact real business with
their.
