The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) said it would take administrative sanctions against two staff members of the Internally Created Fund (IGF) who were extorting money from unsuspecting residents.

The two men, Francis Tetteh and Sadik Ibrahim, who are city guards employed by the Assembly, would use the name of the Assembly to raise money from developers in the region on the pretext of giving them building permits. .

Ms. Adwoa Amoako, General Manager of Tema West Municipal, told the Ghana News Agency that she had received incriminating evidence confirming that they were engaged in extortion and that they would therefore be punished by disciplinary measures aimed at dissuading other employees.

Ms. Amoako pointed out that "I will take action against any worker who would take money from residents without the permission of the Assembly," adding that his team could even end their term .

She pointed out that these acts were detrimental to the development of the region, with the two city guards involved pocketing the revenues of the badembly, which must be collected to finance development projects in the municipality.

She stressed that her goal was to develop the area in accordance with the president's vision of separating the municipality from the metropolis of Tema.

The MCE urged residents and potential promoters not to give money to any staff member, but to go personally to the TWMA offices and deal with real business with them.
