The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was born on May 6, 1950. His birth name was Barima Kwaku Duah, named after his paternal grandfather Ohenenana Kwaku Duah (Nana Agari), Brahyiahene, originally from Kantinkyiren, in the district of Atwima, in the Ashanti region.

Otumfuo is the third son and fifth child of his mother, the late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, of Asantehemaa, who was blessed by Almighty God with three sons and two daughters.

Her two older brothers, Barima Kwabena Poku and Barima Akwasi Prempeh, as well as her younger sister Nana Ama Serwaa preceded her in the grave, leaving him with her surviving elder sister, Nana Ama Konadu (currently 14th Asanteheemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III).

The father of Otumfuo

Otumfuo 's father was Ohenenana Kwame Boakye Dankwa, also from the village of Kantinkyiren, in the Atwima district, in the Ashanti region. Ohenenana Boakye Dankwa succeeded her father, Nana Kwaku Duah Agari, as Brahyiahene.

At the age of five, Otumfuo was placed under the tutelage of his uncle, Oheneba Mensah Bonsu, played under the name of Hiahene in 1952. It was to ensure his education and to lead him. to the royal leadership.

Otumfuo primary education began in Kumasi and continued in 1964 at Sefwi Wiawso High School in the Northwest Region, under the supervision of Omanhene Sefwi Wiawso, the late Nana Kwadwo Aduhene II, Oheneba's cousin Mensah Bonsu, Hiahene.

Otumfuo's secondary education was followed by studies of accounting in 1971 at the Institute of Professional Studies of the time (now the University of Professional Studies of Accra). Otumfuo had the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom to pursue his graduate studies at London Metropolitan University, where he graduated in Human Resources Management and Public Administration.

Work in Canada

Instead of staying in the academic world to pursue postgraduate studies, Otumfuo is directly launched into the world of work in Canada and England.

In 1981, he worked as a senior consultant with the Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company in Toronto, Canada.

In 1985, he returned to London, England, and took a position of Personnel Manager at the Brent Board of Manpower Services Commission in London.

His strong pbadion for the real estate and financial services sectors led him to abandon salaried work.

He created his private company, Primoda Financial Services Limited, with luxurious offices on Kilburn High Road in North West London.

It was in the mid-1980s, when Britain, the owner of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was booming.

Mortgage financing was plentiful and Otumfuo (then Barima Kwaku Duah) used his business savvy to make useful contacts with bankers and mortgage lenders in the UK.

These precious contacts propelled his real estate activity.

Credible real estate agent

In doing so, he has carved out an excellent reputation as a credible and solvent real estate agent in the UK.

This solid reputation has helped him secure the mortgage financing necessary to allow many customers, especially first time buyers, to acquire their own properties in the UK.

In 1989, his entrepreneurial inclinations forced him to return to Ghana. He once again founded his own company, this time in the transport sector, under the name of Transpomech International (Ghana) Limited.

Rest on the golden stool

On February 25, 1999, his immediate predecessor and "elder brother" Otumfuo Opoku Ware II pbaded away. Barima Kwaku Duah was chosen to succeed Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.

The overwhelming support and universal acclaim of the chiefs and peoples of the kingdom he enjoyed made his choice indisputable as the next Asantehene. As a result, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was chosen as the sixteenth occupant of the golden stool on April 26, 1999.
