President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo will officially open the Zipline Medical Drone Technology Center in Akyem Tafo, Eastern Region.
The facility is expected to provide the vaccines that will be administered to patients at New Tafo Hospital.
President Akufo-Addo, accompanied by other dignitaries and zipline officials, will visit the zip line facilities.
This is an initiative of the Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with Zipline.
The long-awaited Fly-To-Save-A-Life project from Medical Drone would give Ghana's healthcare a radical facelift with state-of-the-art technology.
Ghana has adopted technology to use medical drones to deliver drugs, non-medical consumables, blood and blood products.
The service will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. GHS has selected 148 vitally important medical products to stock in Zipline's four distribution centers in the country. Zipline will ensure the delivery of these products on demand to one of the thousands of health facilities served.
Each of the four distribution centers will have a team of 35 Ghanaian engineers and logistics employees, equipped with at least 20 drones. Together, the four distribution centers will be able to perform at least 600 on-demand delivery flights per day. UAVs can carry 1.75 kilos of cargo, for a cruising speed of 110 km / h, and a round-trip range of 160 km in all weathers.

Just last week, the planning committee for the launch of the Tyrolean Fly-To-Save-A-Life medical UAV held a meeting to plan the successful launch of the project.
On April 11, the committee visited the Zipline Medical UAV Distribution Center in Omenako, near Suhum, in the Eastern Region. This is a pre-launch activity by the committee to ensure a well-organized launch of the project (commissioning of the 1st distribution center) on April 24, 2019.
The committee noted a first real-time delivery of INSULIN INJECTION 100i.u. at the new TAFO hospital by Zipline (as part of the medical drone delivery program)
The committee is chaired by Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Executive Director of the Ghana Health Service.
