8 Bloody Accused in the Kintampo

The Sunyani 2 Court of First Instance detained eight suspects in the bloody clashes in Kintampo, Brong Ahafo region, on Tuesday, April 16, 2019.

They were charged with conspiracy to cause damage and riots after the clash over control of the Kintampo waterfalls.

Brong-Ahafo Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, who disclosed this information in an interview monitored by thepressradio.com stated that the court awarded bail to two other suspects.

According to him, additional charges would be brought against the suspects, as the police would collect all the charges for their new appearance in court.

He added that the police worked diligently to bring all the perpetrators to justice.

One person reportedly died and 10 suspects were reportedly arrested in connection with bloody clashes in Kintampo.

Mentioning the incident, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong said Wednesday, April 17, 2019 that the police had received information that two groups, the Dega Land Association and the Mole Youth Association, had teamed up and attacked workers at Kintampo waterfalls.

The groups claimed that the land belonged to them and, as a result, government officials working on site would have to leave.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the police were dispatched to the area and the six-person leaders were arrested and taken to the police station.
