As mentioned in previous articles, Tesla would have been about to update the S & X Model. Although at this point we do not know exactly what this update will include, we did not found that a very specific detail. Does this mean that models S and X are about to get 2170 battery cells? Not at all, because that too should come from the Gigafactory and nothing allows to think it. (In fact, the word is correct: these batteries constitute a bottleneck in the model 3.) The new drive units are similar to those used in Model 3 because they use permanent magnets. This translates into an efficiency gain that will increase the range of the S and X models. In addition, the new powertrain should be rated at one million kilometers, just like that of the Model 3, since This is an important goal for Tesla.
Many questions remain unresolved, for example if these new training units will allow the new versions of the Model S / X to accelerate faster than the previous ones or if Tesla will start giving users the possibility to choose between a larger range and greater acceleration. The Model S and X ranges are very manual compared to the Model 3 General Assembly 3 range. This could mean offering more options, even if it runs counter to Tesla's long-standing efforts to simplify production. Some might wonder if the reduction of the S and X model options could have been a stepping stone to facilitate the updating of the S and X models.
What other information can this update include? The update is likely to allow higher compressor speeds that have recently been made available via an update for Model 3.
It is said that the S and X models will have a very similar interior to the 3 and Y models, which would be a very logical step to help Tesla achieve its autonomy goals for the "Tesla Autonomous Network". All we know is that the first few hundred trainings were delivered by Gigafactory, and our source indicated that the S / X update was "imminent". Indeed, it is about a few hundred and not a few thousand units. It may be a test and there are still months before Tesla announces the update. It's hard to know how long a test process can take. In the meantime, we will keep our eyes open for any further updates or leaks.
