Fire Asafo A similar fire (pictured above) destroyed property in Kumasi Central Market on Good Friday

About a two-hour fire on Saturday night caused damage to the Asafo market in Kumasi, a day after a fire similar to the central market.

According to Kumasi's reporter, Graphic Online, Daniel Kenu, the fire mainly destroyed the cobbler's arena and some of the meat-selling stores located near the main entrance, in front of the bridge suspended from Asafo.

The Saturday night fire destroyed at least 200 stores and other temporary warehouses.

An initial fire tender call was not enough to extinguish the fire, which required a reinforcement to extinguish it completely.

ACFO Joshua Nguah, regional commander of the Ghana Fire Services, told Graphic Online that traders had to be very careful about how fires were extinguished before leaving the market.

He added that investigations should be conducted on both fires to establish the cause and make recommendations.
