Jerry John Rawlings, former President of the Republic of Ghana
The former President of the Republic of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, sent an Easter sound message to Ghanaians as they celebrate and commemorate the death and resurrection of Christ.
In his statement, he stated that & # 39; & # 39; crucifixion and resurrection were a great symbol of sacrifice. How often do we make sacrifices for our families, our communities and our country? How many times do we take but never give? & # 39; & # 39;
Below the complete statement:
In commemorating the resurrection of Christ, let us take the time to reflect.
Crucifixion and resurrection were a great symbol of sacrifice. How often do we make sacrifices for our families, our communities and our country? How often do we take but never give?
In recent weeks we have lost many lives as a result of floods. Floods are sometimes unavoidable, but most flood-related disasters result from the indiscriminate and widespread construction of structures on waterways, which is then exacerbated by imprudent dumping of waste by individuals.
Many of us act above the law by building buildings and walls on waterways, thus blocking the easy flow of water during the rains. We feel above the law because we are able to corrupt and manipulate the authorities responsible for urban and urban planning or feel empowered by our badociation with political authority.
We also repeatedly refuse to do what is required by traveling a certain distance to deposit the waste in officially designated dumps. Under the guise of darkness, we dump garbage bags in the gutters, drains and on the shoulders of our roads.
We can not badociate our habits with the sacrifice that Christ has endured for us if we do not succeed in sacrificing ourselves for our environment, our health and our safety.
Today we should offer ourselves a moment of sober reflection. Let us think about the damage we cause daily to our environment. It is a collective responsibility. Those who watch and do nothing to stop those who are wandering are also guilty. Environmental disasters that result from our anarchy and bad habits make no distinction between people who are killed or maimed. Let's make sacrifices for our environment by keeping it clean, tidy and protected.
