As part of efforts to ensure road safety and minimize traffic accidents during and after Easter, the Regional Office of Road Safety (NRSC) Regional Office in Upper East East has intensified its educational activities with key institutions and road users.
The road safety campaign, which is conducted in collaboration with other road safety agencies, including the Driving License and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Department of Road Traffic and Transport (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, aims to educate and educate road users on the roads. compliance with safety regulations and the need to prioritize safety measures.
Speaking during an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a joint operation focused on long-haul vehicles in Pwalugu in Talensi District, Mr. Dennis Yeribu, Acting regional director of the NRSC, indicated that statistics on road accidents in the region were not satisfactory. .
He revealed that provisional statistics indicate that the region recorded 44 road accidents, including 20 deaths and 48 injuries, during the first quarter of 2019, and this commission was not happy.
For this reason, he said, the Commission and its partners have launched a campaign to promote road safety and advocacy programs, as well as strategies for institutions such as churches, mosques, bus stations , among others.
"For Easter," said Yeribu, "the Commission has engaged several churches in the municipalities of Kbadena-Nankana and Bolgatanga, including churches and Catholic, presbyopic and Fountain Gate drivers," the commission said. that the faithful would act. as volunteers and ambbadadors of the campaign.
The interim manager explained that this decision was aimed at establishing a sense of discipline, influencing the adoption of best practices in road safety and ignoring the ignorance of people, especially users of the road, adding that this would help reduce the high number of road accidents in the region.

He further stated that the Government, the Board of Directors and the management of the Commission remained committed to supporting all efforts to limit the resulting accidents and losses.
He added that as part of the activities to ensure safety on the roads during the Easter festivities, the Commission had inaugurated first aid posts on certain sections of the road network and therefore invited members of the public to give the priority to their safety and respect the signs.
The interim manager also called on the media to use their broad coverage and influence to help the Commission fulfill its mandate and prevent people from losing their lives.
