Call it a triumphant entry from King Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, to Manhyia's Palace!

The King of Dagbon majestically zoomed on the durbar pitch to participate in the 20th anniversary of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

And he received a warm and tumultuous welcome from the Asants – perhaps because of the role Lord Ashanti played in leading him to lead Dagbon.

At the head of the Committee of Eminent Leaders, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II brought peace to a people devastated by a 17-year-old bloody chieftaincy crisis.

The anxious crowd rushed out of their seats to catch sight of the Dagbon Lord while he was riding, escorted by two other people and a vast entourage of chiefs, drummers and other sympathizers.

This stopped human traffic for almost 30 minutes.

Not even the leading Asante chiefs would have access to the durbar until the crowd dispersed after Ya-Na sat in the middle of a magnificent dance of Dagon and its cultural heritage, with various models of blouses competing for attention.

Born in Yendi in 1939, Ya-Na Abukari Mahama was the pocket lord of Dagbon following the settlement of the dispute between his 17-year-old leaders after the funeral of his two lords.

The king, aged 80, is the second child of Queen Duhili Ayishetu, daughter of Kulunkpe-Naa Abukari.

Before becoming the supreme chief of Savelugu, Yaa Naa Mahama was the chief Kponkpano near Yendi.

Following the badbadination of Ya-Na Yakubu Andai II during factional violence in 2002, President John Agyekum Kufuor created the Committee of Eminent Leaders, led by Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.

The prolonged dispute between two royal gates, Abudus and Andanis, left the skin vacant for nearly two decades.

Akwasidae-Kese is the first public visit of Ya-Na Abukari to Manhyia to participate in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the rise to the golden stool of the man who brought peace to Dagbon.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Special Guest of the Akwasidae-Kese Durbar, is chairing a government delegation today, including the Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, the Chief of Staff, the Ministers of State, State and members of Parliament.

Former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Mahama will also be present, as well as the diplomatic corps.
